At Furious Koalas, we’ve done it again. We’ve been selected as the winners of the challenge launched by MEISA as part of the prestigious ANCES Open Innovation 2025 program, thanks to a technological solution designed to reduce downtime in industrial maintenance processes.
This recognition not only strengthens our position as leaders in technological innovation but also reinforces our mission: helping industrial companies embrace digital transformation with scalable, practical solutions ready to be deployed in real-world environments.
Who is MEISA, and why is this challenge so important?
MEISA (Proyectos y Mantenimientos Mecánicos, Eléctricos y de Instrumentación) is a Spanish company founded in 1998 in Puertollano, Ciudad Real. Specialized in industrial assembly and maintenance services, MEISA operates in sectors such as refineries, petrochemical plants, steel mills, and thermal power stations. Its headquarters are located in Argamasilla de Calatrava (Ciudad Real), with branch offices in various Spanish cities and an international presence in Portugal and Morocco.
MEISA offers a wide range of industrial services, including:
Mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation assembly and maintenance
Manufacturing of boiler equipment and metal structures
Valve repair and precision machining
Management of scheduled shutdowns and major overhauls
Installation of fire protection systems and industrial analyzers
This made their challenge in ANCES one of the most demanding in the program: implementing innovative solutions to reduce equipment downtime.
Our solution: Industry 4.0 technology to improve industrial performance
The challenge presented by MEISA was clear and demanding: minimize downtime during maintenance operations, a key variable that impacts productivity, availability, and profitability in any industrial setting.
To tackle it, we developed a comprehensive solution based on Industry 4.0 principles, combining several key technologies that can be applied to companies with similar needs:
Artificial Intelligence (AI): We use AI to anticipate failures, optimize maintenance routes, and assign technical resources more efficiently. This reduces unplanned actions, enhances planning, and shortens downtime.
- Internet of Things (IoT): Connected sensors and devices monitor the real-time status of industrial assets. This data feeds our predictive system, which triggers alerts before critical breakdowns occur.
- Immersive Systems with Mixed Reality: Through mixed reality devices, technicians access interactive instructions and contextual data directly over the physical equipment. This speeds up interventions, minimizes human error, and improves technician training.
The result is a modular, scalable, and adaptable platform that not only digitizes maintenance processes but also improves team coordination, enhances traceability of each intervention, and provides an intuitive user experience.
Real impact technology with global reach
Our proposal for MEISA reflects what we do best: turning advanced technology into practical solutions with short-term impact. Backed by over 15 years of applied research, this project builds on our roots in the innovation teams of the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
Our technologies have already been successfully implemented by both national and international companies. We aim for our digital tools to transform industries by enhancing not only operational efficiency but also technical expertise, safety, and sustainability.
A proven track record in innovation
This recognition adds to our previous win in 2021, when we were selected as winners of the Cojali challenge in the Open Innovation Castilla-La Mancha program. On that occasion, our solution focused on multibrand diagnostics for industrial vehicles, highlighting our ability to adapt to different sectors and complex technological challenges.
We were also awarded Young Company of the Year by the ITACA Telecommunications Awards and the COITT in Castilla-La Mancha.
What’s next: strengthening our collaboration with MEISA
Being selected by MEISA in such a competitive environment as ANCES Open Innovation not only validates our technological vision, but also shows that digital transformation has real impact when it addresses the true needs of traditional sectors.
This recognition marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration, with the goal of turning our solution into a benchmark for industrial maintenance. We believe in its transformative potential and its ability to scale to industrial environments focused on efficiency, digitalization, and continuous innovation.
